Who I Am: Aitch, the Manchester Rapper From M40

· The Artist

Here's the basics in one place, from me and the Aitch Merch team.

Who am I?

I'm Harrison James Armstrong, born on 9 December 1999 in New Moston, Manchester. My stage name is simply how you say the letter H, the first letter of my name. I've been making music since 2015.

How did I break through?

In 2018 my track "Straight Rhymez" spread fast online and went Silver in the UK. A year later "Taste (Make It Shake)" took me into the UK charts, and my EP AitcH2O reached No. 3 on the UK albums chart. More big moments followed:

  • "Rain" (2020): with AJ Tracey, featuring Tay Keith, a No. 3 hit in the UK.
  • "Learning Curve" (2021): a single that went Silver.
  • "Baby" (2022): with Ashanti, a No. 2 hit.

What are my albums?

My debut album, Close to Home, came out in August 2022 and went to No. 2 in the UK. It includes "My G" with Ed Sheeran, a song about my sister Gracie, who has Down syndrome. In June 2025 I released 4, named after my M40 postcode, and it reached No. 7 in the UK.

Have I won any awards?

I was nominated for Best New Artist at the 2020 BRIT Awards and won British Hip Hop/Grime/Rap Act at the 2023 BRITs.

Why Manchester matters

From the 0161 on our varsity design to the Moston Lane sign inside the big red 4, Manchester runs through the whole collection, because it runs through my music too.
